To Escape from Hell

The Lord Jesus spoke of Hell many times...

Matthew 5:22  ...shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 10:28  ...but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mark 9:43-44  ...go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Luke 16:23  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments...

These verses should make it clear that hell is a literal place of eternal fire and torment for sinners.

Hell is the place that God designed to punish Satan and his rebellious angels.

Matthew 25:41  ...everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

 2Peter 2:4  ...God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

When Adam sinned against God, he was sentenced to the place of punishment  - hell.  Because he was the first man, all men born after Adam became just like him - Sinners!

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  

Hebrews 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

 Revelation 20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire...

 
What does a man have to do to go to hell?  ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  Because all men are sinners, they will naturally go to hell the moment they die! 

Matthew 23:33  ...how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Psalm 55:15  Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

Sinners do not have to wait to find out if they're on their way to hell or not.  If you are a sinner (and you are) you are condemned already!

To Gain Heaven

By contrast, whenever a born-again believer dies, his body is buried, but his soul goes to the Lord in Heaven.

2Corinthians 5:8  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

How do we get to Heaven? 

1.  Realize that You are a Sinner and Worthy of Punishment in Hell.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

When the Holy Spirit moves in your heart, convicting you with the Word of God, you'll hate your sins.  You'll know that you are hopeless and will believe in your heart that you'll drop off into hell the moment you die!  What can you do about your sins?

2.  Repent of those Sins and Place Your Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ Who Bore All of Your Sins by Dying in Your Place on the Cross, was Buried, and then Rose Again. 

He is a living Savior who loved you so much that He took your punishment for you!

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

As a pastor I get asked all the time, "Is it really that easy?"  For a sinner, the answer is "yes!"  For the Savior the answer is "No!"  You see He was falsely accused, beaten, bore a crown of thorns, carried a cross up Calvary's hill, was nailed to that cross, was cruelly mocked as He thirsted and finally bled and died on your behalf.

Do not put it off...tomorrow may be too late...get saved right now!
